Does It Matter What Time of Day Windows Are Cleaned?
Timing matters more than most people expect. Cleaning glass in direct, full sun is one of the most common reasons a DIY job ends up streaky no matter how careful the technique.
Why Direct Sun Is the Problem
In full sun, cleaning solution and rinse water dry too fast to be wiped or squeegeed off evenly โ and whatever dries unevenly shows up as streaks. It’s the same reason a car wash on a hot afternoon tends to leave water spots. Morning cleanings, especially before San Clemente’s marine layer burns off, give the glass more time to be finished properly before the sun hits it directly.
Why Purified Water Makes Timing Less Critical
This is one of the advantages of a 0-PPM purified water system: because the water has no dissolved minerals to leave behind, it can air-dry completely spot-free without needing a perfectly-timed wipe-down to avoid streaks. Timing still helps, but it’s far less make-or-break than it is with a standard soap-and-squeegee DIY approach. If streaking has been a recurring issue regardless of when you clean, see Why Do My Windows Still Streak After I Clean Them? for the other common causes.
